Sri Lanka to import frozen coconut

 As Sri Lanka is running out of   coconut, the Government has decided to import frozen coconut, to meet the demand of related industries, the Coconut Development Authority (CDA) said on Saturday ( Jan 02 )

The frozen sliced coconut will be imported from India, the Philippines, and Vietnam 

The decision was taken to solve the issues due to the coconut shortage in the country. Approximately 100million coconuts per month, are required for factories and related industries.

The imported stocks of frozen sliced coconuts will be used to manufacture coconut oil and coconut milk.

 As result of adverse weather conditions experienced, has led to the coconut shortage in the country. 

Recently,  the price of coconut has increased from Rs. 70 to Rs. 100.
