Sri Lanka starts its Army Directorate called Agriculture and Livestock to support the Government's ongoing national campaign to self-sufficient in essential vegetables, dairy products, and grain varieties.
The new Directorate, established on Thursday ( 7, Jan . 2021 ) at Panagoda, the commander of the Army General Jagath Jayasuriya will remain responsible for the farms run by the Sri Lankan army in Ella, Kuttigala, Diyathalawa, Paanaluwa, Habarakada, Ekala, Kandakaudu, Udayarkattukulam, Menik Farm and so on covering the more than 2196 acres of land area.
The farms are growing paddy, corn, vegetables, fruits, coconuts, sugarcane, peanuts, oranges, areca nut, cinnamon, banana, jak, seasonal crops and produce dairy products. In addition, some of those farms conduct animal husbandry, poultry, and dairy cattle. And those products are sold at reasonable prices.
