Agriculture Faculties in Sri Lanka

1. Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya 


This is the oldest Agriculture faculty in Sri Lanka, conducts both undergraduate and postgraduate programs on agriculture. It commenced in 1948 and the Faculty of Agriculture was established as a fully-fledged Faculty in 1972.

2. Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna 

The programs are conducted in English medium and offer a 4-year degree. The annual enrolments around 150 students each year. The faculty also allows experienced Diploma holders to follow the degree. The post-graduate master's programs are also offered by the faculty, in addition to MPhil and Ph.D. degrees by research. 

Each department is facilitated with laboratories, equipment, and other facilities to teach and research the studies of the students.

3. Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka

It was initially established at Rahangala in 1995 and then it was shifted to the Belihuloya in 2001. This faculty also offers a 4year degree program with a specialization in Plantation Management, Agribusiness Management, Commercial horticulture, and Livestock Production.

The faculty has three academic departments namely; Agribusiness Management, Export Agriculture, and Livestock Production.

The faculty farm provides practical knowledge in both crop production and livestock species.

4. Faculty of Agriculture,  the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka

The faculty was established in 2001 aiming to develop sustainable agriculture solutions in the Dry Zone of Sri Lanka. The faculty offers a 4-year special degree in Agriculture, and courses are conducted in English.

The faculty consists of four Departments covering all the disciplines of Agriculture. They are Agricultural Engineering and Soil Science, Agricultural Systems, Animal and Food Sciences, and Plant Sciences.

5. Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna

The construction of the Jaffna Agriculture faculty began in 1986, then disturbed in 1987 due to the civil war. The Faculty is planned to relocate in 2013 to Ariiviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi. The Government has allocated Rs 396 Million for the renovation of the buildings of the faculty.

6. Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka 

The faculty was established on 1st October 1999, current intake is 150 students. They have revised their curriculum in 2014 to adapt to the job market. Students have seven areas that can be selected.
